06 Melech House
A private house around two patios for a wheelchair user.
The design of the Mediterranean house was born out of the necessity to find a cheap plot of land for a fully accessible home for a young family. The geometrical constraints of the triangular site dictated a wide street frontage and a narrow rear elevation.
The main bedrooms were positioned on the quiet suburban street and added privacy and solar shading. The living room was positioned at the back, opening towards the garden and fields.
In order to allow freedom of movement in and around the house an internal lift and an external ramp allowed access between the two floors.
A ground floor patio separates between the bedrooms and public areas of the house, and makes an informal entrance for the family.
The ramp wraps around another lower patio, which lets light into the therapy room in the basement.
